Mountain Top Historical Society Presents Virtual Talk About Enslaved People in Delaware County

Diane Galusha, historian, author and president of the Town of Middletown Historical Society will share a virtual talk sharing the stories of enslaved people who resided in Delaware County from 1790-1830 on Feb. 27, at 3 p.m. on Zoom

The talk titled “Enslaved: People as Property in Delaware County,
1790 – 1830”, will examine what the institution of slavery looked like in Delaware County as farms, towns and industry developed following the Revolutionary War.

The talk will identify specific wealthy, landed settlers who brought enslaved people with them from the Hudson Valley and New England. Discover the little known stories of the individuals they owned and the work they did through personal documents, official records, memoirs, newspaper accounts and other period sources.
